interview that aired on Tuesday (January 19) from Los Angeles.Cast members Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu, and Lucas Grabeel all participated, while Zac Efron couldn’t be there due to a scheduling conflict.
‘High School Musical’ (2006) was a cheesy Disney TV movie that proved to be an unexpected smash hit, launching a best-selling soundtrack, a musical tour, Zac Efon’s fringe, and deeply unrealistic expectations of high-school life for a generation of (now traumatised) kids. It was also indirectly responsible for the all-singing, all-dancing irritants on ‘Glee’. In the first HSM film Zac’s voice is actually dubbed over for the singing because the songs were out of his range. Both his parents worked in a power plant in California and Zac says he had a pretty typical childhood – though admits he would freak out if he got a B instead of an A in a school test. Zac admits he had pretty low expectations for the Disney TV movie ‘High School Musical’ but it immediately launched his face onto a million posters, into a million girls’ hearts and onto a million lads’ most hated-lists. He also popped up in the teen series ‘Summerland’ alongside fellow teen-idol Jesse Mc Cartney and future ‘True Blood’ star Ryan Kwanten. Before ‘High School Musical’, Zac had guest roles on ‘CSI: Miami’, ‘ER’, and ‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody’.He was then cast as Link Larkin in the ‘Hairspray’ movie (above) and he did all his own singing for that one.
After ‘High School Musical 2′ he went for a dramatic role alongside Clare Danes in ‘Me and Orson Welles’.He dropped out of the ‘Footloose’ remake as he didn’t want to do another musical but did return for ‘High School Musical 3′.Since then he’s been in comedies like ’17 Again’ (in which we’re asked to believe Matthew Perry looked like Zac as a teenager), ‘New Years Eve’ and ‘The Lorax’ but he’s definitely made huge efforts to be taken seriously as an adult actor with roles in dramas like ‘Charlie St Cloud’ and ‘The Paperboy’ and comedies like ‘Bad Neighbours’ and ‘That Awkward Moment’. Up next he’s starring with Seth Rogen in the comedy ‘Neighbors’ and with Imogen Poots in ‘Are We Officially Dating? He dated Vanessa Hudgens during filming of the High School Musical films but is currently single as far as we know.In September 2013 it was reported that he had been in rehab to deal with a cocaine problem.Vanessa Hudgens – Gabriella Montez Vanessa grew up in California with a firefighter dad and an office worker mom. Her dad is Native American and Irish and her mum is from the Philippines and is of Spanish-Chinese-Filipino descent. Vanessa’s first big-screen role was in the critical-hit drama ‘Thirteen’ alongside Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter. She went on to play the role of Tintin in the flop ‘Thunderbirds’ movie before landing the lead role of Gabrielle in ‘High School Musical’.
